Testing Dates & Information

STANDARDIZED TESTING

The purpose of standardized testing in the state of South Carolina is to select or develop and administer high quality assessments of educational attainment that provide reliable information that can be used as the basis for drawing valid conclusions about examinees and that meet the highest standards of the educational measurement profession.  The following assessments are scheduled to be administered this year:

 PRE ACT/PSAT-10

PREACT simulates the ACT testing experience by providing students early exposure to ACT test-quality questions and preACT provides the following:

  • Early indication of progress to help guide action plans
    Fast, robust reporting
    Easy, flexible, and affordable administration

PSAT/NMSQT

Students may pay to take PSAT in their Junior year for National Merit and other scholarship considerations.

 SAT/ACT

Students should consult with a counselor before registering for any testing.  Registration materials for SAT I, SAT II, and ACT are available in the School Counseling office. Students complete registration forms and mail registration along with the required fee. York Comprehensive High School is a testing site. However, testing is NOT administered at that site for all test dates. It is recommended that students take these tests late in their junior year.  Students should check registration materials for the most convenient test date.

 SCHOOL BASED ASSESSMENT

The SC Department of Education offers students in their 3rd year of high school the opportunity to take ONE College Readiness Assessment (ACT or SAT) and requires a Career Readiness Assessment.  Check back for an updated list of the dates of the school-wide administration of ACT/SAT and Career Readiness Assessments.

 ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP)

Advanced Placement tests are administered at the school for all students enrolled in an AP. There is no cost to YCHS students for the testing.  Students enrolled in these classes are required to take the AP test.

END OF COURSE

End of Course (EOC) exams must be given in Algebra 1, English 2, Biology 1, and US History. EOC exams will count 20% of the final grade. No student may be exempted from an EOC exam.

ACCUPLACER

ACCUPLACER tests students’ knowledge in math, reading, and writing. It is used by technical schools in South Carolina.  Over 1,500 institutions administer ACCUPLACER tests as part of the enrollment process. These tests help identify the students’ strengths and needs in each subject area. The academic advisers and counselors at college or technical school will use the ACCUPLACER test results along with information about the student’s academic background, goals, and interests to help match selected courses with the student’s skill level and give the best opportunities for success.

In conjunction with South Carolina Code of Law, South Carolina Department of Education Regulations, and York School District One Board Policy, York One Schools has established procedures for student participation in state assessments.  It is a Testing Violation for a student to be in possession of any electronic device at any time during testing.  If a student is found to have any electronic or other communication device during a state test, the device is to be confiscated and will be directed to the school testing coordinator, district testing coordinator, and school administration for investigation and disciplinary action.
