UPDATES FROM THE SCHOOL COUNSELORS
We are nearing the end of the 2024-25 School Year! We are excited for our graduating seniors and are working hard to get all of our students successfully through their semester.
PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS & SUMMER SCHOOL
YCHS will be offering Summer School for credit recovery and attendance recovery again this year. Summer School is particularly important this year, as the YSD1 School Board revised high school promotion requirements in November of 2024.
Please note the new YSD1 promotion requirements:
From Grade 9 to Grade 10: a total of 6.0 credits, including one unit of English and one unit of mathematics.
From Grade 10 to Grade 11: a total of 12.0 credits, including two units of English and two units of mathematics; one unit of science; and one unit of social studies.
From Grade 11 to Grade 12: a total of 18.0 credits, including three units of English and three units of mathematics; two units of science; and two units of social studies.
Summer School 2025
Credit Recovery: Students that fail a core class with a grade between 50-59 may recover their credit in an accelerated credit recovery course and earn a "P". Credit Recovery will begin on June 9th and will run for three weeks, Monday-Thursday, from 8:30am to 2:30pm. Please note, students with excessive absences are required to make up their absences before they may begin their credit recovery course. The there will be a flat fee of $75 for the three weeks of Summer School Credit Recovery. Students may pre-register through their school counselor, or register on-site the morning of June 9th.
Attendance Recovery: Students that have more than 10 absences in a full-credit course, or more than 5 absences in a half-credit course, can fail a class due to excessive absences (FA). Students that have not recovered their time by the end of the 2024-25 school year may attend Summer School to complete their make-up hours. Attendance Recovery will begin on June 2nd and will run for four weeks, Monday-Thursday, from 8:30am to 2:30pm. All excessive absences for the Spring 2025 semester must be recovered by the end of Summer School. There will be a $25 fee per week for Attendance Recovery. Families may choose the week they prefer to attend. Students must pay the full $25 fee for the week, even if they do not need to sit the full week to recover their course.
